Why Spend More On An Item

People always ask: “Why would you spend $300 on a shirt?!”

Besides the fact that I am now addicted to silk and cashmere, I prefer to
look at clothing purchases as an investment. As a 21-year-old student I have
found that I have three choices for clothing: 3 for $20 t shirts that will last 2
washes, mid quality clothing that everyone else my age wears, or distinct
investment pieces. I prefer the third option however I am very particular about
what I will spend on.

These investment pieces answer yes to the following four questions:

  1. Will they physically last 5-10 years?
  2. Are they classic and going to be in style in 5-10 years?
  3. Are they pieces I can carry with me as I finish school and enter the work
  4. Can I pair it with multiple of my existing pieces for new outfits?

Following the criteria has allowed me to build a stylish, classic, long lasting and
overall affordable wardrobe.

The following outfits all utilize the same silk camisole by Vince. Once piece
that works with a blazer, a vest, and layered with a t-shirt. It easily blends into
business, going out, and casual attire.

Am I too old to wear distressed denims?

Well, as an almost 58-year-old woman I’ve asked myself that question several times! Would my 26-year-old daughter be mortified that we could possibly be wearing the same jeans!?

I guess my answer to this question is… heck no! Why shouldn’t I wear them?! However, styling my distressed jeans, as a middle-aged woman, will and should differ greatly from my daughter. She would pair her jeans with a crop top or tighter graphic tee whereas on me – NO ONE – should ever have to see that! I like to keep my top and footwear super simple. A quiet, solid colored silk blouse with gold hoop earrings and leather ankle boots makes me feel confident enough to “pull off” wearing distressed denim.

I love the way FRAME denim and J. Brand jeans fit my “I gave birth to two kids” hips. Both brands are super comfortable, never saggy, and always flattering in the “bummage’ area.

Be confident, be stylish, and always be yourself.

“I have nothing to wear!”- The Go-Tos

Hello lovelies!

This morning I was standing in my closet staring at all my clothes, frustrated as can be, thinking “I have nothing to wear.” Let’s be real, every once and a while, I think even the most put-together fashionistas just wish someone would tell them what to wear today or how to style that new blouse. A true testament to this is the age-old question “what are you going to wear?” which I personally text to my girlfriends at least once a week. But through my years of fashion trials and errors, I’ve created a few go to looks to wear when I’m lost, that always look stylish and effortless.

My go to outfit for any casual situation is dark jeans and a neutral colored top, some kind of cute statement jacket (this season I recommend a teddy coat!), sneakers, and some dainty and simple jewelry to jazz it all up. My t-shirt is by Vince, my coat is by op ed, my jeans are by Frame, shoes are by ZCD Montreal, and jewelry is  Elizabeth Lyn.

I love blazers for work-wear, as they look very chic, with minimal effort. I wear a blazer (like this beautiful Smythe piece in the photo), black dress pants, a basic blouse, and some killer heels. I usually style the colours and fabrics of the outfit around the blazer as that is the focal piece of the outfit, so if you’re rocking a killer red blazer, an all-black ensemble looks great. My blazer is by Smythe, blouse and pants are by Vince, and pumps are DVF.

While this outfit may seem predictable to some, I’m a firm believer that classics are classics for a reason, and you can never go wrong with a little black dress, some drop earrings or a statement necklace, and some funky pumps. My dress is by Iro, my pumps are by Ted Baker, and jewelry is by Elizabeth Lyn.

In sharing these with you, I hope that next time you have no clue what to wear, you can take a little inspiration from me!

All Things TFT

Hello lovely ladies!

My name is Mackenzie Firby, owner of Two Fifty Two Boutique. I have always loved clothes and fashion for as long as I can remember, and it’s that life-long passion that brings me here today. I’ve been thinking for a while now about how I can better communicate and connect with not only my customers, but also my friends, family, and everyone in between. Everyday I get the chance to help women with fashion choices, and maybe get to help them feel more confident and stylish. However, I want to do more, and engage more with all the lovely ladies I know. Because of this, I decided it’s time to revamp our blog, and try something new.

A member of my staff or myself are going to be posting curated blog posts here on this blog, signed by the amazing woman who wrote it. We’ll post regarding a wide variety of topics, including fashion tips and advice, travel, and holiday. I want it to be fun, helpful, and hopefully provide you with more insight into who we are, and the things we love. Make sure to follow us so you get an email notification every time we post, you won’t want to miss this!
